Today, we can find them in a couple of bars, catering to the now adults who once raided arcades in their youth. Modern Pinball NYC aims to change that by bringing pinball back for the entire family to enjoy. The problem is that for kids today, pinball isn’t nostaglic—it’s ancient. They grew up with advanced technology, and if they ever played a game of pinball, it was probably on a computer. Lining up outside an arcade to play pinball is unknown territory. I created the graphics and illustrations intending to mix 3D, of-the-now visuals that would be both familiar and exciting for children to look at, with a nod to our nostalgia and its 2D ways, back when pinball was in its glory days. Movement is at the heart of Modern Pinball NYC's identity to capture the game’s energy. The colors are bright and flashy, with a wide enough range to create variance between layouts and still work well as a family. Paying homage to older and simpler times, I used Modula OT, designed in 1985 by Zuzana Licko of Emigre, whose intention was to create a computer font with forms that should "result as an integral part of the digital process, not in spite of it." I tried to carry this way of thinking into the rebranding of Modern Pinball NYC, embracing our digital world by bringing pinball back into it, not in spite of it. Taking multivitamins can be more manageable and accessible, but you're usually taking unnecessary additional vitamins.As health consciousness becomes a more critical factor in markets worldwide, companies often sell a lifestyle in the place of products. Solely, at its very core, is a company selling you vitamins and nothing more. Fitting into your lifestyle is an added bonus. The resulting branding and communication reflect Solely's strategy of complete honesty and transparency. Starting with the name, all the way up to the products themselves, it’s clear that, with Solely, what you see is what you get. The overall identity looks clean and concise, reflecting brand values.&nbsp; Appointing a color to each vitamin helps distinguish between vitamins, but for those with color blindness, color coordination is neither sufficient nor reliable. Large letters accompany the color-coded system, so people with visibility issues can identify each vitamin efficiently and with ease.Customer names are printed onto stickers that are then added to shipping boxes, along with fun iconography denoting different vitamin properties—a small touch that personalizes each box.Solely is a fictional company created (solely) for this branding and strategy exercise. All the copywriting and design was done by me. We proposed a new identity inspired by The Memphis Group’s usage of bold colors and geometric patterns, but with a modern and psychedelic flair. With an eclectic logo, a database of patterns and a distinct color scheme, the resulting identity is whimsical and dynamic, yet cohesive in nature. Unsolicited. houses four distinct parties on four separate nights. House of Pop, its Friday night rager, blares pop and classics all night long. The identity was inspired by the space itself, which looks almost like an acropolis or temple overlooking the sea. Roman and Greek statues were used across the communication to convey the idea that even immobile beings come to life to enjoy the party. To overcome copyright restrictions in music, we recorded karaoke versions of popular tracks and really brought the statues to life. The four friends all had a color as part of their surnames, leaving Tsukuru "colorless" in their "orderly, harmonious community". This difference made him feel ostracized and translated into deep insecurity, and Tsukuru considered himself to be dull and uninteresting compared to his unique and talented friends.One day, seemingly out of nowhere, his friends cut Tsukuru out of their lives, leading him on a long and winding journey, spanning close to 16 years, of uncertainty, depression, and loss. Many years later, he goes back to the members of his long-lost group to figure out what happened in an attempt to piece his life back together. Ultimately, this is a story of self-discovery and personal growth; how delving into the past can uncover truths about the present.&nbsp; For the design of the cover, I used negative space to create forms and signify the idea of absence. I played around with a halftone effect to add texture and dimension while building out letter forms. I limited the color palette to black, white, pink and neon green, and kept all the information about the date, time and place in the same location across all the different posters. These simple restrictions allow for creative freedom across the rest of the poster.&nbsp; &nbsp; Illustrations, moving type, photography, and even a black-and-white scan of a bumpy gourd—just about anything goes, as long as it fits within the color scheme.
